~Manila BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 1079 DECLARING THE THIRD WEEK OF JUNE 2006 AS “SAFE KID’S WEEK”

WHEREAS, traumatic injury is one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in Filipino children; .

WHEREAS, the Philippine College of Surgeons is a professional organization of surgeons devoted to providing care and treatment to children who are victims of such injuries;

WHEREAS, SAFE KIDS Philippines is a global non-governmental organization dedicated to the prevention of unintentional injuries to children;

WHEREAS, the Philippine College of Surgeons and SAFE KIDS Philippines have entered into a partnership to promote awareness to this serious health problem, provide a venue for cooperation among concerned organizations and prevent the unnecessary disability and deaths of Filipino children due to traumatic injuries;

WHEREAS, the cooperation of all the concerned sectors is vital in achieving the laudable objectives of this advocacy.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the third week of June 2006 as “SAFE KID’S WEEK”.

Active multi-sector involvement is hereby urged to ensure the success of this advocacy.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
