BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 1218. DECLARING 2007 AS THE “YEAR OF THE FILIPINO UROLOGISTS”

WHEREAS, the Philippine Urological Association. Inc. (PUA), which was founded and inaugurated on September 15, 1957 for the advancement of the art and science of urology, will be celebrating its Golden Anniversary.

WHEREAS, PUA aims to deliver the highest quality of preventive, therapeutic and rehabilitative care to the Filipinos suffering from diseases and malignancies of the genitourinary tract;

WHEREAS, the diseases and malignancies of the genitourinary tract, — particularly the kidney, urinary bladder and the prostate, have emerged in recent decades as among the leading causes of debility and death among Filipinos;

WHEREAS, these conditions have been estimated to rise significantly and continue to evolve as among the leading health problems as the aging population increases exponentially affecting the economy and the burden of healthcare resources allocation of the country.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare 2007 as the “Year of the Filipino Urologists”.
