DECLARING SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 1937, A PUBLIC HOLIDAY

Whereas, a petition has been received from the Associated Banks of Manila, asking that the twenty-seventh day of March, nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, be declared a public holiday; and

Whereas, the banking houses signing said petition have agreed that negotiable papers which would be payable on the twenty-seventh day of March, nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, if the same were not a holiday, shall not be protested until sunset of March twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, and that they will receive moneys from the business community on said twenty-seventh day of March for safekeeping, provided that such moneys shall not be taken up on the banks’ account until the twenty-ninth day of March; and it appearing to the President that the twenty-fifth and twenty-sixth days of March, nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, are public holidays, and that said twenty-seventh day of March can be declared a public holiday to the great advantage of the banking and importing and exporting houses, and of the public in general;

Now, therefore, I, Manuel L. Quezon, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the authority in me vested by section twenty-eight of the Administrative Code, and there being in my judgment sufficient reasons therefore, do hereby proclaim Saturday, March twenty-seventh, nineteen hundred and thirty-seven, as a public holiday.
