Pf:41 MALAcARANG MANILA BY urn PRESillENT OF mE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 16 DECLARING AUGUST 17 TO 23 OF EVERY YEAR AS PEACE AND FREEDOM WEEK WHEREAS, August 21, 1992 marks the 9th death anniversary of the late Senator Benigno S. Aquino; WHEREAS, his death triggered the chain of events that culminated in the restoration of democracy in this country; WHEREAS, in offering his life for the cause of democracy, Senator Aquino deserves a special and lasting niche in Philippine history; WHEREAS, it is only proper, under the circumstances, that he be remembered and honored on the day he made the supreme sacrifice so that his people may again be free; NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do 'hereby declare August 17 to 23 of every year, beginning this year, as Peace and Freedom Week to commemorate the lasting contribution of the late Senator Benigno S. Aquino to the cause of peace and freedom in our land.
