PROCLAMATION NO. 187

AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 259 DATED MARCH 23, 2000, BY DECLARING THE CELEBRATION OF PHILIPPINE GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY (GYSD) EVERY YEAR ON A DATE SPECIFIED BY THE GYSD INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE (ICC) AND TO BE HANDLED BY A NATIONAL LEAD AGENCY IDENTIFIED EVERY YEAR BY THE ICC

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 259 dated March 23, 2000, declared April 15, 2000 and every year thereafter as the celebration of Philippine Global Youth Service Day and identifying the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) as the national lead organization for the Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) celebration in the country;

WHEREAS, the International Coordinating Committee (ICC) for the Global Youth Service Day celebration worldwide prescribes different dates for the yearly celebration of Global Youth Service Day and also identifies the National Lead Agency every year for the celebration of Global Youth Service Day;

WHEREAS, for this purpose there is a need to amend Proclamation No. 259 to be more consistent with the international celebration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby amend Proclamation No. 259 dated March 23, 2000, by declaring the celebration of Philippine Global Youth Service Day every year on the date specified by the GYSD International Coordinating Committee and to be handled by a National Lead Agency identified by the ICC every year upon application by any government or non-government organization..
