BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 218

AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 607, SERIES OF 1990, BY RESET- TING THE CELEBRATION OF ACCOUNTANCY WEEK FROM THE FOURTH WEEK OF JULY OF EVERY YEAR TO THE THIRD WEEK OF JULY OF EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER

WHEREAS, the accounting profession is inextricably linked to national development and to the goals of government;

WHEREAS, there should be wider dissemination to our people of the critical and important responsibilities assumed by Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) in accounting education, commerce and industry, government, and public practice;

WHEREAS, CPAs, regardless of their particular fields of interests and endeavors, are essentially members of one profession dedicated to the service of the public;

WHEREAS, a unified and integrated accounting profession is needed to raise the standards of the profession and enable it to discharge its public responsibilites more effectively;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) is the official national organization of Certified Public Accountants, duly accredited by the Professional Regulation Commission;

WHEREAS, there are four (4) existing sectoral organizations of CPAs namely: Association of CPAs in Public Practice (ACPAPP), Govern- ment Association of CPAs (GACPA), Association of CPAs in Commerce | and Industry (ACPACI), and Association of CPAs in Education (ACPABE), which were designated under Proclamation No. 260, series of 1988, as participants in the celebration of Accountancy Week;

WHEREAS, there is a need to reset the celebration of Accountancy Week to the third week of July of every year in order to provide a common celebration for all CPA professionals belonging to PICPA and the different sectoral organizations of CPA;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested i in me by law, do hereby amend Proclamation No. 607, series of 1990, by resetting the
