BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 285

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM NOVEMBER 11 TO 15, 2002 AS THE “MUTUAL FUND CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK”

WHEREAS, the Investment Company Association of the Philippines (ICAP) will observe its 7™ anniversary as the organization of all mutual funds registered with and allowed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell mutual funds in the Philippines on November 10, 2002;

WHEREAS, ICAP, as an integral part of its anniversary activities, will en- gage in a series of roadshows to promote a better understanding of mutual funds as an investment option for the investing public from November 11 to 15, 2002;

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus national attention on the key role mutual funds play in providing the public and private sectors access to invest- ment capital vital to the national economic development;

WHEREAS, there is a further need to focus national attention on the key role mutual funds play in broadening public participation in securities ownership, thereby enabling more Filipinos to share in economic growth;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from November 11 to 15, 2002 as the “MUTUAL FUND CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK” under the auspices of the Investment Company Association of the Philippines.
