DECLARING MAY 22 TO 26, 2000 AND THE FOURTH WEEK OF MAY EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER AS “POSTHARVEST LOSS PREVENTION WEEK”

WHEREAS, the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension, an attached agency of the Department of Agriculture, was established in May 24, 1978 to curb postharvest losses and maintain food and feed quality by generating and disseminating postharvest technologies;

WHEREAS, the 22"! Anniversary of the Bureau of Postharvest Research and oe Extension will be held in May 24, 2000 in Diliman, Quezon City; oe WHEREAS, in support to the twin goals of the government, namely food Mee security and poverty alleviation, it is necessary to highlight the role of postharvest eee. research in both agricultural and economic development of the country; ;° WHEREAS, under the Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Act, the Bureau of eee Postharvest Research and Extension takes the lead in providing postharvest interventions ess to maintain the quality and increase the value of agricultural and fishery commodities for ue global competitiveness and sustainable development. ote NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the *s°

Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from May 22 to 26, 2000 and every third week of May thereafter as “Postharvest Loss Prevention Week” under the auspices of the Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension.
