DECLARING THE PERIOD FRC AUGUST 1988 TO aUGUST 19389 AS "NATIONAL RED CROSS YEaR".

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Uross is the duly constituted voluntary organization officially de- signated to assist the Republic of the Philippines in discharging the obligations set forth in the Geneva Conventions and to perform such other duties as are incumbent. upon a National Hed Cross Society;

WHEREAS, in its 41 years of humanitarian service, the Philivpine Wational Red Uross has continually shown ivself as an effective auxiliary to the government in the field of disaster relief, safety, health and welfare; and

WHEREAS, the Philippine National Red Cross is a recognized member of the International Red Cross which celebrates its 125th Anniversary this yezr;

WOW, THEREFURE, I, CORAZON C. AyUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from August 7988 to Auzust 1989 as "National Red Cross Year".

i hereby call upon all residents of the Philippines to turn their thoughts to and be a part of the noble undertakings of this great argeueres con which, as a dyna- mic member of the International Red Cross, is doing the best it can to help promote the spirit of peace, parti- cularly in our country.
