BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 311

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM SEPTEMBER 4 TO 10, 1988, AND THERE- AFTER THE SECOND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER OF EVERY YEAR AS THE HOTEL AND RESTAURANT INDUSTRY WEEK AND CREATING A COMMITTEE TO IMPLEMENT THE PROGRAM INCIDENT THERETO.

WHEREAS, the government recognizes the important role Played by the hotel and restaurant industry in the develop- ment and economic well-being of the Philippines;

WHEREAS, for this industry's contribution to national economic development - the employment it generates, the in- come derived from this industry and its significance to the overall cultural and social upliftment of our people - it is imperative that its vital role be fully understood, appre- ciated and supported by everyone in all segments of our society; and

WHEREAS, there is also need to provide recognition to hoteliers and restaurateurs as they strive to be more compe- titive in the local and world markets and place the Philippines in the forefront of hospitality in Asia and the world.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from September 4 to 10, 1988 and thereafter the second week of September of every year as the Hotel and Restaurant Industry Week.

To insure the proper observance of the Hotel and Res- taurant Industry Week, the following heads of government agencies and private entities that are allied to the hotel and restaurant industry are hereby appointed to take charge of all appropriate celebrations and activities in connection with the Hotel and Restaurant Industry Week, to wit:

The Secretary of Tourism - Chairman

The President, Hotel & Restaurant Association ‘of the Philippines - Vice-Chairman

The Secretary of Education, Culture and Sports -— Member

The Secretary of Labor & Employment - Member

The Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources - Member

The President, Hostel Sales Managers Association - Member

The President, Hotel & Restaurant Financial Officers of the

Philippines - Member

The President; Association of Personnel Managers of Philippine Hotels and Restaurants - Member

The Presigent, Executive Housekeepers Association of the Philippines = Member

The President, Purchasing Managers of Hotels and Restaurants of the Philippines = Member

The President, Association of Credit Managers in the Tourism Industry = Member

The President, National Union of Workers in Hotel, Restaurant and Allied Industries - Member

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
