AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 894, S. 1996, BY MOVING THIS YEAR’S CELEBRATION OF THE NATIONAL TOURISM WEEK FROM THE LAST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER TO SEPTEMBER 17 TO 23, 2000
WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 894, s. 1996, has declared the last week of the month of September of every year as National Tourism Week;
WHEREAS, the American Association of Travel Agents (ASTA), one of the biggest travel organizations in the world, has scheduled to hold this year’s ASTA World Congress at Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on 24-29 September 2000; eee
WHEREAS, in order to afford ample opportunity of participation to this year’s : ASTA World Congress by the Philippine tourism industry, both in the government and .° private sector, to maintain and strengthen the visibility of the Philippines as a major tourist *.° destination for the American market with the objective of generating new contacts with : ASTA member travel agents, it is proper and fitting that the observance of the National Tourism Week for this year be moved from the last week of September to 17-23 oo8 September 2000; oe
NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the _ a Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby amend Proclamation .° No. 894, s. 1996, by moving this year’s celebration of the National Tourism Week from °°
the last week of September to September 17 to 23, 2000, with the theme “Pride of Place”. see I call upon the citizens of the Philippines to observe said period with appropriate ote
activities designed and initiated by the Department of Tourism as lead agency, inchuding its
attached agencies, together with the Department of Education, Culture and Sports, the
Department of Interior and Local Government, the National Commission for Culture and
the Arts, the National Historical Institute and the National Museum in coordination with
the Philippine tourism industry.
