BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 337

DECLARING THE PERIOD FROM OCTOBER 16 TO 21, 2000 AS AGRI- CULTURE AND FISHERIES WEEK

WHEREAS, the Philippine agricultural sector has a rich tradition of social res- ponsibility actively supporting government in dealing with the people’s complex needs thereby effectively contributing to the national welfare and development;

WHEREAS, the celebration of Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Week will highlight and inform the public about the contributions of corporations, corporate founda- tions and business organizations to economic and social development of the Philippine agriculture particularly in making the Philippine agriculture globally competitive;

WHEREAS, the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc. having estab-

lished itself as a key player in the development of a responsible agriculture and food

business sector and as an entity capable of harnessing the resources and building the capability of corporations and NGO’s in contributing to national development goals, can best serve as the overall coordinating body to effectively oversee the activities of the Philip- pine Agriculture and Fisheries Week to ensure the meaningful celebration of this event.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH EJERCITO ESTRADA, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare the period from October 16 to 21, 2000 as Agriculture and Fisheries Week under the auspices of the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food, Inc..
