Proclamation No. 450, s. 1965

MALACANANG RESIDENCE OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES MANILA BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION No. 450 DECLARING SEPTEMBER 8 OF EVERY YEAR AS SEATO DAY WHEREAS, the South-East Asia Treaty Organization was born with the signing of the South-East Asia Collective Defense Treaty in Manila on September 8, 1954; WHEREAS, the Alliance now emerges as the free world's best hope to deter communist aggression, to bring about progress in peace and freedom, and to promote understand­ ing among countries in the Asian region; and WHEREAS, it is recognized that the strength of the Al­ liance emanates from the confidence of the people in it and from their adherence to its objectives and the ,Prin­ ciples behind its creation; Now, THEREFORE, I, Diosdado Macapagal, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare September 8 of every year as SEATO Day. All elements, specially the student pop~llation and civic groups, are called upon to observe the day with appropriate activities to emphasize the significance of the occasion and to reaffirm the Filipino people's abiding · faith in the Alliance.
