AMENDING PROCLAMATION NO. 396 DATED JUNE 2, 2003, ENTITLED “ENJOINING THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF ALL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, INCLUDING GOVERNMENT-OWNED AND CONTROLLED CORPORATIONS, PRIVATE SECTOR, SCHOOLS, CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS AND THE CITIZENRY IN TREE PLANTING ACTIVITY AND DECLARING JUNE 25, 2003 AS PHILIPPINES ARBOR DAY”

WHEREAS, Proclamation No. 396 dated 02 June 2003’ was issued in cognizance by the state of the necessity to promote a healthier ecosystem for our people through the rehabilitation and regreening of our environment;

WHEREAS, there is a need to sustain the wide support and success gained from

the implementation of proclamation No. 396, and to institutionalize Philippines Arbor Day;

WHEREAS, planting more trees will not only help reforest denuded areas but also make the entire country a greener and healthier place to live in;

WHEREAS, it is necessary to declare a day each year for conducting actual tree planting and thus foster partnership and environmental stewardship among various sectors in our society.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Republic of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby amend Proclamation No. 396 dated 02 June 2003 by declaring every 25" of June as Philippines Arbor Day to be observed throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants and other forms of relevant activities.

All other provisions of the said Proclamation not inconsistent herewith shall remain valid and operative.
