BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO.660 DECLARING OCTOBER 21 OF EVERY YEAR AS NATIONAL ARCHIVES DAY WHEREAS, the Records Management and Archives Office (RMAO), a cultural agency under the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS), was formerly the Office of Archives that Spain turned over to the United States Govern- ment in accordance with the Treaty of Paris of 1898; WHEREAS, the Philippine Commission, by auth?rity of the President of the United States, created the Bureau of Archives under the Department of Public Instruction on October 21, 1901; WHEREAS, the Records Management and Archives I (RMAO) annually celebrates National Archives Day to morate the creation of the Bureau of Archives and the cretization of archives work in the Philippines; Officecomme- con- WHEREAS, it is essential to focus public attention on the role and importance of archives in the various national development efforts; NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of thePhilippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare October 21 of every year as National ArchivesDa.Y.
