PROCLAMATION NO. 688

DECLARING AS OFFICIAL THE 1990 POPULATION COUNT OF THE PHILIP- PINES BY PROVINCE, CITY, MUNICIPALITY AND BARANGAY AS OBTAINED FROM THE 1990 CENSUS OF POPULATION CONDUCTED BY THE NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICE

WHEREAS ,-Batas Pambansa Blg. 72 approved on June 1l, 1980 mandated the taking of an integrated census of population every ten (10) years beginning in the year 1980;

WHEREAS, pursuant thereto, a census of population and housing was conducted by the National Statistics Office. (NSO) in May 1990 under the overall supervision of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), the highest policy- making body on statistical matters;

WHEREAS, under Section 8 of Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, the final population count as determined from the processed census - returns shall be considered official for all purposes upon proclamation by the President;

WHEREAS, the population count for most areas has been esta- blished and finalized, except for those with circumstances * under which enumeration cannot be efficiently carried out;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby proclaim the results of the 1990 Census of Population, placing the total population of the Philippines as of May 1, 1990 at 60,684,887 as official for all purposes including the population of each province, city, municipality and barangay, as.shown in Report No. 2, which is hereby marked as Annex "A". and made an integral part hereof.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
