'../HEREAS, the earthquake that hit the Province of Southern Leyte on May 5, l~l caused landslides and road cracks in the Municipalities of San Juan, H.i.nunangan and St. Bernard; ':';' ~ WHEREAS, several residential houses, school buildings and barangay chapels in St. Bernard and San Juan partially collapsed; ~HEREAS, fissuring from 300 to 350 meters long was observed at Barangay.Pgngoy and Barangay ~inoyho, both in San Juan; ~iiEs, damages ',~ere estimated by the Provincial Governor of Souther~~~~yte at pg million; . WHEREAS, the declaration of a state of public calamity in the Province of Southern Leyte is necessary to cushion the adverse effect on the local economy and to normalize the situation through the imme- diate implementation of relief and rehabilitation program by the concerned line agencies; NO~, THEREFORE, I, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Phil;p- pines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare a state of public calamity in the Province of Southern Leyte. All departments and other government agencies concerned are hereby directed to implement and execute re1ief and rehabilitation work in accordance /ith existing operational plans, directives and orders issued in connection with calamities.
