BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 753

DECLARING FRIDAY, JANUARY 7, 2005, AS A DAY OF NATIONAL PRAYER AND MOURNING FOR ALL TSUNAMI VICTIMS

WHEREAS, the tsunam/ that hit the Asian region on December 26, 2004 has tolled on hundreds of thousands of human lives, including some Filipinos;

WHEREAS, this tragedy in the neighboring Asian countries has caused deep sorrow and grief not only to the people of the affected countries, but also

among our people;

WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a day of national prayer and mourning to express the Filipinos’ grief over the tsunami’s human toll.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the power vested in me by law, do hereby declare a day of national prayer and mourning on Friday, January 7, 2005. On this day, the entire nation is enjoined to offer prayers for all the tsunami victims.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
