!-4FtJ .2/70 MALACANANG Manila BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 760 DECLARING JUNE 4 OF EVERY YEAR AS THE NATIONAL COUNCIL WOMEN OF THE PHILIPPINES (NCWP) DAY OF WHEREAS, the Civil Assembly of Women of thePhilippines, now the National Council of Women of the Philippines (NCWP), was founded in 1947 in response to an invitation of then Philippine President Manuel A. Roxas for Filipino women to participate in the struggle for freedom; WHEREAS, the NCWP in the fifty years since its founding has become the pioneer, largest, and main umbrella network of women's organizations in the country, contributing to nation building, civil well-being, and women's empowerment, through its 208 member affiliates and 3,081 local councils of women with more than 10 million members nationwide; WHEREAS, the vigor, dedication, contributions and achievements of the NCWP and its members spring and flow from the nurturing vision, leadership, and inspiration of its founder, Dr. Francisca Tirona Benitez, and the distinguished ladies who joined her in founding the NCWP; WHEREAS, it is only fitting that, during the year-long celebration of the NCWP's 50th Anniversary and in futureyears, NCWP's continuing achievements, commitment, and contribution to the nation's progress and development be appropriately recognized and exalted in tribute not only to its leaders but more importantly to every Filipino woman striving to carryon its mission and objectives; WHEREAS, it is but proper and fitting that the nation declare an NCWP Day and there can be no better occasion to properly honor the NCWP on its 50th Anniversary and manifest the nation's appreciation of its contributions to nationbuilding, civic well-being, and women empowerment than on the 11Oth birth anniversary of its illustrious founder, Dr. Francisca Tirona Benitez, on June 4, 1996; NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of thePhilippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare June 4 of every year as National 'Council ofWomen of the Philippines Day. IN REPLYING.
