MALACANANMANILA BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES N <- PROCLAMATION NO, ~ , WHEREAS, the revolutionary struggle for freedom and independence and the eventual birth of the Filipino nation in 1898 was just the result of the emerging patriotism and individual scarifies offered by our forebears during the darkest moment of our history; WHEREAS, one of such sterling expression of self-determination and profound love to the Motherland was that of the death and martyrdom of the Thirteen Martyrs of Cavite on September 12, 1896 at the Plaza de Armas, Cavite; WHEREAS, the transcendental significance of the event demands that it be cherished forever in the hearts and minds of the Filipino people in general, and the citizens of Cavite City in particular and inspire them as they strive for national prosperity and progress; jYBEREAS;-1fS-oii1y--aPPJ:9priate that tile national and city officials avite City be given ampl time to prepare the commemorative centenary rites hoii:Onhe T)1irteen Martyrs of Cavite and enjoin the full pc1:patioQfjQ.al-c6nstituents; NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by Book I, Chapter 7, Section 27, of the Administrative Code of 1987, do hereby declare Thursday, September 12, 1996, a special day in the City of Cavite in commemoration of the centennial of the execution of the Thirteen Martyrs in Cavite; " 2 IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the sal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affIXed.
