PROCLAMATION NO. 849

DECLARING AS OFFICIAL THE 1995 POPULATION COUNT CONDUCTED BY THE NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICE

WHEREAS, pursuant to Batas Pambansa Blg. 72 and Executive Order No. 121, the National Statistics Office (NSO) is tasked with generating general purpose statistics, among which is a census of population of every ten years beginning in 1980 and other censuses and surveys as mandated by the National Statistical oordination Board (NSCB), the policy-making and coordinating body of statistical activities in the government;

WHEREAS, the NSCB approved the conduct of a mid-decade population census through NSCB Resolution 6-93;

WHEREAS, pursuant thereto, a census of population was conducted by the NSO last September to November 1995, with September 1, 1995 as reference date;

WHEREAS, under Section 8 of Batas Pambansa Blg. 72, the final pulation count as determined from the processed census returns shall be considered as official for all purposes only upon proclamation by the President;

WHEREAS, funding for the census operations was ensured by the adoption if the activity as a flagship project of the government;

4 NOW, THEREFORE, I, FIDEL V. RAMOS, President of the Philippines, by irtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby approve Report No. 1 of the 995 Census of Population containing one volume, which shows a national opulation as of September 1, 1995 of 68,614,162 and the popuiation counts by on, province, city, municipality and barangay, and appended to this roclamation as Annex “A” and made an integral part hereof, and the same is lereby declared as official for all purposes.
