PROCLAMATION NO. _ 85

DECLARING JUNE 15, 2001 TO DECEMBER 31, 2002 AS THE GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY YEAR OF JOURNALISM IN THE SERVICE OF THE NATION UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB OF THE PHILIPPINES AND AUTHORIZING THE NATIONAL PRESS CLUB OF THE PHILIPPINES TO UNDERTAKE GENERAL MEMBERSHIP AND FUND CAMPAIGNS

WHEREAS, the National Press Club of the Philippines, hereinafter referred to as the NPC, is a potent professional organization dedicated to the defense and promotion of press freedom in the service of the nation;

WHEREAS, the NPC will observe its 50'* year or Golden Anniversary on October 29, 2002;

WHEREAS, to commemorate the 50'n year or Golden Anniversary of the NPC, various programs and activities are proposed for a year-long Golden Anniversary celebration;

WHEREAS, to ensure the continuous, progressive and consistent funding and financial support for the programs and activities planned in connection with the year-long Golden Anniversary celebration, the NPC shall undertake general membership and fund campaigns;

WHEREAS, there is a need to focus public attention on the important role the NPC plays in upholding the freedom of the press and the dignity of the journalism profession;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, GLORIA MACAPAGAL-ARROYO, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare June 15, 2001 to December 31, 2002 as the GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY YEAR OF JOURNALISM IN THE SERVICE OF THE NATION under the auspices of the National Press Club of the Philippines and, in connection therewith, authorize the National Press Club of the Philippines to undertake general membership and fund campaigns during said period.
