MALACANAN PALACE MANiI,A BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE PHILIPPINES PROCLAMATION NO. 86 DECLARING JANUARY 24, 2011 AS ''PHILIPPINE TROPICAL FABRICS DAY" WHEREAS, it is the policy of the State to instill patriotism and nationalisnt antong the Filipinos, promote the preferential use of locally manufactured goodt; an,J uiilize local resources and adopt measures that will help in the generation of wicler employment; WHEREAS, Republic Act (RA) No. 9242 or the Philippine Tropical Fabrics Law of 2004 defines tropical fabrics as those containing natural fibers produced, spun, woven or knitted and finished in the Philippines, for use of office uniforms of government officials and employees and for other purposes; WHEREAS, the implementation of RA 9242 shall provide the needed push for the judicious utilization of natural fibers like pineapple, banana, abaca and Philippine silk on the one hand, and the revival and upliftment of the local te>rtile and garments industry on the other, both of which shall rebound to creation of livelihood in the agricultural and industrial sectors; WHEREAS, as the use of Philippine tropical fabrics unfolds overtime, th<;re will be a growing awareness and sense of pride among Filipinos to patronize and use locally manufactured textiles. NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, PTCSidCNt Of thE Pl^rilippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare January 24,2011 as "Philippine Tropical Fabrics Day", under the auspices of the pl-rilippine Textile Research Institute and the Deparlment of Science and Terchnology.
