PROCLAMATION NO. 97

DECLARING MONDAY, MAY 11, 1987 AND TUESDAY, MAY 12, 1987, AS NON- WORKING SPECIAL PUBLIC HOLIDAYS THROUGHOUT THE PHILIPPINES. C
WHEREAS , Section 1, Article XVIII of the 1987 Constitution provides that the first elections of Members of the Congress shall be held on the second Monday of May, 1987;

WHEREAS, pursuant to the said Constitutional mandate, the elections for the Members of the Congress will be held on Monday, May 11, 1987;

WHEREAS, Monday, May 11, 1987, should be declared a non-working special public ,holiday to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the said elections;

WHEREAS, the list of candidates to be voted for in the afore- said elections are 24 senators and 1 representative, thereby render- ing the canvassing and tallying thereof a longer process;

WHEREAS, the people should have the fullest opportunity to 4, witness said process if they so desire;

NOW, THEREFORE, £, CORAZON C. AQUINO, President of the Philip- pines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Monday, May 11, 1987 and Tuesday, May 12, 1987, as non-working special public holidays throughout the Philippines.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.
